The Dispossessed: War, Terror and the Diaspora

12th December 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

International journalist Rory O’Keeffe and Bury South MP Ivan Lewis will be keynote speakers at an event at Bury Art Museum and Sculpture Centre next month.

The Dispossessed: War, Terror and the Diaspora, at 7pm on Saturday 12th December, is the official launch event for Rory O’Keeffe’s book The Toss of a Coin: voices from a modern crisis.

The book, which takes readers to the heart of the international refugee crisis through first-person accounts from refugees and others affected by conflict, terror and shortage in North Africa and the Middle East, will be the centre-piece of the evening, which is also a chance to learn more about the crisis itself, and how it connects to life in the UK.

Ivan Lewis will introduce the event, and talk about his own experiences as an MP, helping refugees find safe places to live, and then Rory O’Keeffe will talk about Libya, Tunisia and the wider international crisis, including some readings from the book, sharing the stories of the refugees and combatants he met in Libya and Tunisia.

There will be time for questions and answers, making this an ideal opportunity to find out more, discuss issues surrounding the gravest crisis of modern times, and to meet the author.

Refreshments will be available.

The Dispossessed: War, Terror and the Diaspora starts at 7pm on Saturday 12th December, at Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre, Moss St, Bury, Lancashire BL9 0DR
